management and controls infrastructure at SAIC, pulling from 13 years of
results, observations, lessons learned, and hands-on experience using PMI
project management principles and skills in setting up and trouble-shooting
troubled programs and establishing a career path, mentoring programs, and

assessment, planning, tracking, and marketing techniques that can help
leaders forge a way forward in their own organizations.

PMP, Dena Mottola, Allen Shaheen |
Topic: Discussion: Perspectives
on Sustainability and Project Management
Abstract:
The work of Project Management involves
sustained effort to achieve objectives; in turn, Project Management assures
results that sustain the business. The results of projects
produce lasting outcomes that may also have unintended consequences.
Project managers are obliged to consider the social, environmental and
economic context in which their projects are planned and implemented; assessing
impact to assure that the desired outcome is produced. Project managers
must also sustain themselves and their teams throughout the project life
cycle! The goal of this panel is to demonstrate leadership by providing
a variety of perspectives from executives of leading New Jersey and national
companies and other organizations addressing both project management and
sustainability. Questions for panel speakers include:
-
What components of sustainability are significant
for my organization and industry (focus on unique elements)? How are they
being addressed?
-
How does project management contribute to
the success of my organization? What is unique about PM in my industry?
-
How does my organization sustain project management
excellence? (Training, mentoring, career paths)
-
What challenges is my organization or industry
facing relative to project management?
-
What is the intersection of PM and sustainability
today and in the future and what steps are needed to make it happen?
