As the discipline of project management
edges ever closer to being recognized for being able to lend meaningful
support to companies’ business functions, the business case emerges as
a potentially useful tool in leading that charge. Business cases have been
around for a long time, but are rapidly gaining popularity, as more and
more companies struggle to optimize the application of limited budgets.
The business case is a tool that enables
the thoughtful and thorough analysis of a host of business decisions, such
as project justification and approval, vendor selection, alternative analysis,
and implementation decisions. It then follows that having the ability to
craft a top notch business case will continue to grow as an important contribution
to the project manager’s toolbox. This presentation walks attendees
through the business case process and presents a comprehensive and detailed
outline which describes proper technique in terms of substance, form, and
content for preparing formal business cases on projects. Interested attendees
get to walk away with a template they can begin using the next day.
