The NJ Chapter of PMI is an organization that is run by volunteers, for volunteers.  It is through the dedication and commitment of individuals like you that we are, and will continue to be, successful.  We are always looking for volunteers to join our team as the Chapter continues to grow and broaden its services to the member community.

Volunteering your time and skills to NJ PMI has benefits for both the Chapter and you.  While the chapter benefits from your talents and dedication, volunteering provides you with the opportunity to:

If you are interested in being a volunteer, complete our Volunteer Application Form. Once submitted, your application will be reviewed by the Director of Volunteers and you will be contacted to discuss possible opportunities.

It’s a great way to earn PDUs.

Project Management Professionals (PMPs) are eligible to earn PDUs through a variety of volunteer activities.  Below is the current list.

PDU Categories

PMI PDU Page

Category 1: Formal Academic Education

One (1) hour of degree credit in a typical 15-week semester earns 15 PDUs.
One (1) quarter semester hour earns 10 PDUs.
When only a portion of a course relates to project management, PDUs are calculated on a percentage of the overall curriculum focused on project management.
Documentation Required: A transcript or grade report indicating a passing mark.

Category 2: Professional Activities and Self-directed Learning

A - Author or co-author of article pertaining to project management published in a refereed journal. (e.g. Project Management Journal ® )
30 PDUs per article (author); 20 PDUs per article (co-author)

B - Author or co-author of  article pertaining to project management published in a non-refereed journal. (e.g. PM Network ® )
15 PDUs per article (author); 10 PDUs per article (co-author)

C - Speaker on project management topic at a conference, symposium, workshop or formal course.
10 PDUs per activity

D - Speaker on a project management topic at PMI Component meeting. (e.g. Chapter meeting)
5 PDUs per activity

E - Member or moderator of a project management panel discussion at a conference, symposium, workshop or formal course.
5 PDUs per activity

F - Author or co-author of textbook that pertains to project management.
40 PDUs (author); 20 PDUs (co-author)

G - Developer of content for seminar or other structured learning program.
10 PDUs per new program

H - Practitioner of project management services for more than 1,500 hours per year.
5 PDUs per calendar year (Maximum of 15 PDUs may be earned per CCR cycle)

SDL - Self-directed learning activities are individualized learning projects involving personally conducted research or study. Qualifying self-directed learning activities must be relevant to project management, meet a specified purpose, and use knowledgeable resources.
1 PDU for each hour (Maximum of 15 PDUs may be earned per CCR cycle.)

Documentation Required: Copies of publications, sample educational materials or program agendas, or for SDL, evidence supporting the reported learning project.

Category 3: PMI Registered Education Providers

Attending educational programs offered by PMI Registered Education Providers.
Certificates will be issued indicating the number of PDUs.
 

Category 4: Other Provider

Attending relevant educational programs offered by organizations not registered with PMI.
1 PDU per 1 contact hour of learning relevant to project management.
 

Category 5: Volunteer Service to Professional or Community Organizations

A maximum of 20 PDUs may be earned per cycle through professional service or by providing noncompensated project management services to nonemployer or nonclient customer groups.

No PDUs are awarded for service less than three months.

Officer for a project management organization.
- 2 PDUs for 3 months
- 5 PDUs for 6 months
- 10 PDUs for 12 months
Committee member for a project management organization.
- 1 PDUs for 3 months
- 3 PDUs for 6 months
- 5 PDUs for 12 months
Provide project management related services to a community or charitable group
- 5 PDUs per year
 

PDUs for writing newsletter article

PDUs may be claimed for writing an article for the chapter's newsletter, provided the below criteria is met.

The PDUs would be claimed as Category 2 "PDUs for Self-Directed Learning".
The author would be eligible for 1 PDU for every hour they spent researching and writing the article for the Chapter Newsletter, provided they achieved a specific learning objective that enhanced their project management skills, and the associated article was relevant to project and / or program management.  A maximum of 15 Self-Directed Learning PDUs may be earned per CCR.
