Abstract

Dr. Denny Smith discussed the Project Management Institute’s Project Management Professional (PMP) certification program.  He described the program, highlighting the advantages and benefits to project managers who obtain the “PMP” designation and outlined the certification process.  He also discussed the process for maintaining the PMP certification.

Dr. Smith shared his insights on the history and development of the PMP program, the development structure and process for the examination, and plans for continuing improvement to both the program and the processes.  He introduced the new  “Certificate of Added Qualification” (CAQ’s) which are available in some professional areas and discussed the development process for additional certifications areas.

Denny Smith, Ph.D. - Manager, PMI Certification Group
Bio: 

Dr. Smith. brings extensive education, assessment, and psychometric skills to his position having experience in both certification and education.  He holds an M.S. in School Psychology from Miami University and a Ph.D. in Educational Studies from Perdue University.  Denny comes to PMI from WorldatWork, a human resource organization specializing in compensation and benefits in Scottsdale, AZ.  Denny is responsible for the processing of all applications for certification and additional qualifications.  He coordinates the work of the Certification Department with that of the Research, Standards, and Education Departments.
