Student Paper

Team Die Hard: Eslam Ayoub, Emilio Barca, Edilberto Torres, and Kevin Welly

In the increasingly competitive world of wireless telephony, every service provider must find a way to both retain existing customers and attract new customers.  Amid the various mergers and acquisitions in the industry, Sprint Nextel Communications realized that in order to grow their market share they would need to develop a new strategic initiative.  Sprint focused on a key metric - increasing customer satisfaction through improved quality of service.  The major objectives of this initiative were to:
  • Improve the percentage of successful calls
  • Improve customer churn rate; which is essential due to other wireless providers’ targeting of existing Sprint customers
  • Use the network bandwidth more effectively.

Team Die Hard of Dr. Aaron Shenhar's Project Management and Leadership class at Stevens Institute of Technology analyzed Sprint's Quality Improvement Project and will present the results of their findings.
This paper was one of many submitted by Dr. Aaron Shenhar as part of his Project Management and Leadership course at Stevens Institute of Technology.  The nominated entries were reviewed by a team of PMI NJ board members and associates, and Project Live Free was chosen as the one that most thoroughly analyzed all dimensions of the project using PMBOK best practices and provided insight into successes and failures.  The Project Live Free Team will present their assessment and recommendations at the meeting.
