Keynote

CFJohn J. Gillen is an experienced HR professional, a Human Capital management consultant and a work futurist.  Currently, John is the Work Strategist & Chief People Officer of PeopleProductive, a cloud-based Human Capital Management software platform that enables companies and teams to methodically improve the productivity of their workforce by linking cultural improvements to key business metrics.  Prior to that, John worked as a HR management consultant including for Deloitte Consulting’s Human Capital Management practice where he worked on Future of Work concepts and projects related to Contingent Workforce Management.  John has deep and broad corporate HR experience as a Senior Director of Workforce Initiative for Standard & Poor’s, a Director of Employee Services for AT&T Capital and Manager of Management Development for Young & Rubicam.   John is a frequent presenter to corporations, HR professional organizations and community-based non-profits where he focuses on the future of work to help workers and organization adapt to the new world of work.

The Future of Work:  How Project Management Professionals Can Succeed in the New Projectized “Gig Economy.”

We are entering a new digital age and a new projectized world of work. One of the many names that characterizes this new world of work is the “Gig Economy” where assignments replace jobs as the fundamental organizing unit as how work gets done.  Automation will eliminate the repetitive tasks associated with many “permanent” jobs leaving work that is more creative and innovative.   This new work is going to be best accomplished in teams and through projects.  Because the Gig Economy is more project-based by nature, Project Management Professionals (PMPs) are in a unique position to take advantage of the many new opportunities that are inherent in a new project-based work world.  Nevertheless, change creates both opportunities and risks and this transition will create both new winners and new losers.   PMI members who want to be a part of this new world need to adapt and learn how to navigate a new work landscape that requires a change in mindset from seeking “job security” to ensuring “project employability.”

Learning Objectives
At the end of keynote address, participants will know:
  1. what are the mega trends that are driving the new world of business.
  2. how these mega trends are affecting the world of work and changing a jobs-based workforce into an assignment-based workforce.
  3. why the projectization of work provides opportunities for PMPs but only IF they are willing to adapt to the new set of work rules of the digital age.
  4. what PMI members must do to move from seeking “job security” to embracing the new mentality of “work employability”
