Abstract

Project Manager is a title that comes with the responsibilities of executive leadership for the project. In the current times, more than ever, there is a need for project managers to lead a project as a business, with sound decision making, strong social and emotional skills, and the ability to see the big picture and solve complex problems. In the midst of this, the individual rarely has time to stop and think about self as an asset and the need focus on continued personal growth.

Bio:
Kalpana Patel is a management consultant, and President of her own consulting firm, Excellence Management Consulting, LLC, offering Executive Coaching, Leadership Team Training and Operations Management consulting services.

Enriched with a successful career of 40 years, of which the first 10 years were teaching under-graduate college physics. During her 30-year corporate career following that, she has held several leadership positions, building and grooming teams of young professionals from the ground up.. She has built a PMO from the ground up, setup an offshore development center from the ground up, defined best practices for communications and team work at small start-up companies, working closely with the C-suite of leadership in a variety of industry verticals, including Telecommunications (working for the Bell System and few incumbents), Global Banking, Cyber-Security and Educational Assessment.

Besides running her consulting firm during her retirement years, Kalpana is also spending her retirement on philanthropy, and sits on the Board for several non-profits, including Young Audiences of NJ and Eastern Pennsylvania, Grounds For Sculpture and NJ State Museum.

A six sigma green belt and ITIL certified professional, Kalpana holds a Master’s degree in Solid State Physics, and a Master’s degree in Computer & Information Systems from NJIT, Newark NJ. Kalpana, with her family including her husband and daughter has been a NJ resident for 35 years.
