Why should you care about Radiology?
Radiology is the medical discipline that uses medical
imaging to diagnose and treat diseases within the bodies of
animals and humans. It impacts us all, whether or not
we work in life sciences. For example:
- Have you ever had a broken bone? Then you know about
X-ray Radiography or Computed Tomography (CT).
- Have you ever been pregnant? Then you know about
Ultrasound.
- Have you ever had an internal disease? Then you know
about Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
- Perhaps you or a loved one have had cancer? Then you
know about Nuclear Medicine and Positron Emission
Tomography (PET).
Value-based Care and Quality Improvement in healthcare have
become the principal goals for many healthcare providers,
mainly in response to the U.S. Healthcare Act of 2015. This
Act requires payment reimbursement to healthcare providers
be tied to the quality of care; it rewards healthcare &
medical institutions financially based on efficiency and
effectiveness - or penalizes for lack thereof.
Radiology plays a vital role in value-based healthcare, and
therefore has significantly grown in importance.
On Thursday November 18, 2021, 7 to 8pm, Dr. Reza Tehrani
presents: “Project Management of Quality Improvement in
Radiology”. In this session, you will learn about quality
control and quality improvement projects, using radiology as
a specific application example. You will understand the
concepts of:
- Measuring efficiency and effectiveness
- How Quality Control (CQ) and Quality Improvement (QI)
encompasses four different areas: 1- People, 2- Policies
& Practices, 3- Processes & Procedures, 4-
Technology & Communications.
- How to prioritize QC and QI projects, e.g., What
factors do you measure? What tools can you use?
Learning Objectives
- Understand how project management can drive quality
improvement initiatives, using the medical discipline of
radiology as a specific application example.
- Understand how can a QI project outcome’s efficiency
and effectiveness can be measured, and multiple quality
projects prioritized, using the medical discipline of
radiology as a specific application example.
- Learn about approaches in radiology QC and QI
initiatives.
