Abstract

Have you ever wondered how to use your project management skills in your personal life?  When you or a loved one has a serious illness or hospitalization, those skills can make a tremendous difference. Join the Life Sciences LCI as we welcome Elvina Jeffers, Senior Market Consultation/Partnership Professional in the Stars/Quality organization at Humana Healthcare, to present: “The Patient as a Project: Optimizing Your Healthcare Experience” to learn how the fundamentals of project management can ensure quality care. From defining the project scope through closure, see how the skills you have honed throughout your career put you at an advantage when receiving care from providers or hospitals.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn how to translate project management processes and leverage your project management skills to achieve personal objectives, using patient / healthcare advocacy as a practical example.
  • Understand the importance of communication in evolving situations, such as in the patient care setting, and learn practical communication tips.
  • Understand the value of project integration in managing challenging situations, using acute and chronic medical conditions as practical examples.

Speaker:

speakerElvina Jeffers is currently employed by Humana as a Senior Market Consultation/Partnership Professional in the Stars/Quality organization. She has more than 30 years healthcare experience, working in hospitals and clinics in both Louisiana and Minnesota. During that time, Elvina’s primary role was as Project Management Office (PMO) Director, where she acted as a player/coach managing a full slate of projects.

She has completed a wide array of multi-year, multi-million-dollar projects, including Radiology (RIS/PACS), Laboratory (LIS), Pharmacy, Nurse Call, and EMR systems.  Using her Lean/Six Sigma training, Elvina also led the development of clinic processes from appointment scheduling through billing/payment, building upon an inpatient grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.  She also served on PMI’s Healthcare Community of Practice Board for four years.

In 2011, she moved home to Louisiana to be the primary caregiver for her parents. That experience, combined with her years as a PMO Director in healthcare, gives her a unique perspective on ensuring the best outcome when partnering with healthcare providers.
