Abstract
A critical part of Pharmaceutical Research & Development (R&D) is the function called Pharmaceutical Development (PD). It is the bridge from drug discovery, where active ingredients are invented, to the clinical trials and manufacturing where that power ingredient is transformed into a human consumable product, with smart packaging and compliant labeling. Similar to R&D, PD is centered around therapeutic assets, with teams of scientists shepherding an evolving product thru clinical trials and ultimately to market. A crucial role for each of these teams is a skillful project manager who also must know the scientific process and much of the basic science underpinning PD.
Learning objectives:
- Understand the primary functions involved in PD – analytical development, process development and product sciences – and how the project manager collaborates with all.
- Be introduced to the language of scientific and technical terms used in PD.
- Appreciate the science, technology and process of an organization that delivers hundreds of prototype medicines every
