Abstract
In this session, Tarek will deliver a comprehensive introduction to Green Project Management in Construction Projects, drawing on his expertise as both a PMI-CP and PMI-GPMb professional. He will break down the core principles behind PMIs sustainability-focused GPM-b certification, highlighting how project managers can embed responsible, environmentally conscious practices into every phase of a construction project — from concept and planning through execution, operations, and closeout.
Tarek will explore how to use internationally recognized sustainability standards to evaluate environmental impact, improve resource efficiency, and drive measurable performance across the project lifecycle. He will also discuss how to integrate green workflows into existing project management frameworks without disrupting schedule, scope, or budget—ensuring sustainability becomes a value-add rather than an obstacle.

Speakers
Tarek Tawfk is a seasoned Project Management Specialist with extensive experience across global organizations including IBM, NCR, Teradata, and the United Nations.
He holds a Master’s in Project Management from the British University in Dubai and is both PMI-CP™ and PMIGmbH certified. As the founder of PMI’s Authorized Training Partner program (ATP#3563), he has trained countless professionals in PMP, PgMP, and PfMP exam preparation.
At Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA), he has served as a PMO Specialist supporting power transmission projects and has led teams focused on project management methodologies, innovation, capability development, and AI-driven benefits realization. His work spans project governance, organizational change, and major SAP PPM implementations, including CATS, MRS, Smart Document Management, GRC, MM, AM, mobility tools, compliance systems, and project reporting dashboards.
He contributed to DEWA’s first PMBOK-aligned project management manual for substations and supported audits, deliverables, and PMO operations. As a key member of the Dubai International Project Management Forum (DIPMF), he supports knowledge sharing at a global scale. His experience also includes the end-to-end construction lifecycle for DEWA substations — from site selection and design to commissioning, maintenance, and operational excellence — adhering to the highest standards of safety, sustainability, and quality.
