Topic: The Future of Project Management – Through the Eyes of the Past. Evolution or Revolution?
Abstract:
The movement to harness the power of project management emerged in the 50s and 60s, driven by government agencies and the airline industry to address project delays and budget overruns. The concept evolved from Cost/Schedule Control System Criteria (C/SCSC) to Earned Value Management System (EVMS), highlighting the importance of effective tools and techniques for cost-effective delivery.
As someone who has been involved in this field for over 55 years, I witnessed the lack of project management skills and processes, especially in complex projects. The 70s and 80s saw a growing focus on project management as a business approach, leading to the emergence of professional organizations and associations worldwide. From basic project scheduling to integrated planning and the Agile revolution, project management has continuously evolved, with AI and disciplines like Supply Chain and Change Management poised to shape its future.
The presentation will explore this journey, discuss what lies ahead, and provide an opportunity for attendees to ask questions about the future impact of project management.

- Learn about project management history
- Understand current trends and influences on industry
