Abstract

Educational institutions and elements of the military have adopted the mantra Mission First, People Always because of its powerful message. Let's go ahead and ask the question, "What comes first, the mission or the people?" Think about it for a bit. Relate it to your current project and project team. The answer is yes - the mission comes first, but we always take care of our people!

Leaders must maintain a laser focus on the overall mission while maintaining the cohesion of the entire project team. The most impactful leaders are the ones who can relentlessly drive toward achieving the mission while integrating highly social and personable engagement styles with their team members.

In this session, Marc Resch will share deep insights on how to take extreme ownership of your project results and to effectively engage with your teams. With relentless engagement, we always have our finger on the pulse of the team and will know when that pulse rate is normal, accelerated, or even erratic, and we can act accordingly. Engaging the team relentlessly helps us to stay abreast of all moving parts and enables us to stay on top of all project activities. The goal of relentless engagement is to proactively propel the project forward without causing interruptions or impediments. Some of the concepts and techniques that will be presented include:

Plans are useless, but planning is indispensable
    Delegating is not abdicating responsibility
Managing UP, and not just down
    Escalating, but never crying wolf

This insightful and entertaining session will motivate attendees to become positive forces for business change focused on bottom line results.

During the Agile LCI presentation, Bob Phillips, PMP, PMI-ACP, ICE-AC, CSP, (and the alphabet soup), will share information about agile certifications.

Do we really need more acronyms? CSM or PSM? PSPO or CSPO? CSP or ACP? What do these mean and which path could you take to pursue agile certifications? Not interested? Maybe you should be! Perhaps you will be interviewing someone holding one or more of these or you may want to obtain a few for yourself to help you understand and work with agile teams.

During the session we will discuss what certifications you could consider through a comparison across a few tracks and how to get there.

Come join us for our first agile LCI meeting of the program year!
